SAF press release
Due to unforeseen circumstances and the escalating tensions in Syria, the Syrian American Forum (SAF) regrets to inform you that the visit of the Mufti Ahmad Badreddine Hassoun and the Patriarchal Deputy for Syria, Bishop Luka ElKhoury, has been postponed.
SAF expresses its disappointment that such an interfaith delegation will miss an opportunity to promote coexistence, dialogue and a call for halting the vicious cycle of violence prevailing in Syria. We wanted to use this opportunity to advocate these positions based on one of the most important values we learned in our adopted country: freedom of speech. We expected the delegation to encourage reconciliation and promotion of peaceful transition towards a more democratic system through dialogue, not violence.
Our Chairman, Dr. Nasser Ani, and delegation’s visit today to the Department of State resulted in a mutual understanding of the current status of events. We agreed on taking further steps of cooperation in trying to achieve reconciliation. SAF is committed to pursuing its mission and promoting these universal values in the national interest of the United States.
We appreciate the outstanding efforts taken by our members, supporters and friends. We are encouraged by your dedication and commitment. We plan to move forward in the near future with similar events promoting dialogue.
