For immediate release

Washington, D.C.

In one of its latest barbaric assaults on the citizens of Syria, terrorists from the so-called ISIS targeted the historic community of Assyrian Christians in northeast Syria.

In these senseless acts of terror, scores of Syrians were killed and hundreds were abducted. In addition, more than 700 Assyrian families were uprooted from their communities to escape the onslaught and took refuge in local churches in al-Hasakah and Qamishli. The ISIS terrorists confiscated homes and properties and burned churches.

This latest crime is especially horrific because it is targeting the rich and diverse fabric of Syria.  While the crimes of ISIS transcend all ethnic and religious communities, attacking small and defenseless communities causes irreversible damage to Syria and humanity.

The Syrian American Forum (SAF) condemns this latest attack in the strongest terms and calls on the United States and the international community to work side-by-side with the Syrian authorities to degrade and ultimately destroy this terror organization.
